Hash Generator
Compute SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 hashes of any text.

About the Hash Generator
This hash generator computes SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 cryptographic hashes of any text in real time. A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of your input — the same input always produces the same hash, but you cannot reverse a hash back to the original data. Hashes are used for checksums, data integrity verification, and as building blocks in security systems.
All hashing is performed locally with the Web Crypto SubtleCrypto API, so your input never leaves your device.
How to use it
- 1Type or paste the text you want to hash.
- 2All four hashes (SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, SHA-512) compute instantly as you type.
- 3Copy the hash you need with one click.
Common use cases
- Verifying file or message integrity with checksums
- Comparing content by fingerprint
- Generating cache keys or ETags
- Learning how cryptographic hash functions behave
Frequently asked questions
Why is MD5 not available?
The browser’s Web Crypto API deliberately does not implement MD5 because it is cryptographically broken. For integrity and security, prefer SHA-256 or stronger, which this tool provides.
Can I reverse a hash to get the original text?
No. Cryptographic hashes are one-way functions. You cannot compute the input from the output — you can only hash a candidate input and compare. This is why hashes are used for integrity checks.
Should I hash passwords with this tool?
No. Passwords should be hashed server-side with a slow, salted algorithm such as bcrypt, scrypt, or Argon2. Plain SHA hashes are too fast and unsuitable for storing passwords.
